Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club

Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club (PLSLC) is a beloved sports club located on Main Beach in North Stradbroke Island, Redland City. Established in 1947 with just ten foundation members, PLSLC has a rich and rewarding history. The club is built on strong family foundations and offers activities for members of all ages and abilities.

PLSLC is proud to acknowledge the Quandamooka First Nations People, specifically the Nunnkul, Ngugi, and Gorenpul tribes, as the Traditional Custodians of the lands and seas where they patrol. The club pays respect to all Elders, past, present, and emerging, recognising their important role in preserving tradition and culture.

As the only Queensland Surf Club to patrol two beaches, PLSLC offers outstanding lifesaving services to the community. The patrolling season runs from the first weekend of September school holidays to the long weekend in May. The club takes pride in its Junior Activities programme (Nippers), where young members learn essential surf awareness, lifesaving, and resuscitation skills.

New members are always welcome at PLSLC. Whether you're an individual or a family, there are plenty of activities to get involved in. The club holds a Sign-On Day for existing and new members in late August, but inquiries are welcomed, and new members can join at any time during the season. PLSLC is a family-oriented club supported by its own fundraising efforts and sponsorship.

The club has several upcoming events, including its 75th Anniversary, which is commemorated with limited-edition merchandise, such as Retro T-Shirts, Retro Bucket Hats, Official Club Polo shirts (for both men and women), and Stubby Coolers. To add to the celebration, Point Lookout SLSC has also created its very own gin, crafted by the Lord Byron Distilling Co.

As a non-profit organisation, PLSLC relies on fundraising, government assistance, and donations to maintain and improve its lifesaving services. Being one of the few Surf Lifesaving Clubs in Australia patrolling three beaches at Straddie, PLSLC requires extensive gear and equipment to provide a high-quality service to the public. Last season, the club performed 20 rescues, 11,855 preventative actions, and 1,025 first aid cases between Main and Cylinder Beaches.

PLSLC holds various fundraising activities, including raffles and collection days, as it does not rely on the income generated by bistros and poker machines. The funds raised are used to provide members with up-to-date training and rescue equipment, as well as cover the maintenance costs of the Clubhouse and facilities. Members only pay for their membership and meal costs on the weekend.

To support the lifesaving services provided by PLSLC, tax-free donations are greatly appreciated. Contributions go towards the purchase and maintenance of rescue gear and club facilities. It is through these donations that PLSLC can continue its mission of keeping beachgoers safe and ensuring the preservation of this cherished organisation.
