Pole vault is an Olympic 'Field' sport of Athletics which requires an athlete to jump over a tall horizontal bar without knocking it. The athlete runs towards the object and uses a flexible pole to propel them over the horizontal bar and land on a soft mat. This sport tests an athlete's agility, spend and strength. Pole vault has been included in the Olympics since 1896 for men and since 2000 for women.
