Polwarth and District Tennis Association

Calendar. With clubs ranging from small towns to larger regional areas, the Polwarth and District Tennis Association prides itself on providing a friendly and inclusive environment for players of all ages and skill levels.

The association has a rich history, dating back to its founding in 1937. Starting with just four clubs, the association quickly grew as more clubs joined in the following years. Today, the association boasts a total of 20 active clubs, with Apollo Bay, Bambra, Barongarook, Barwon Downs, Beeac, Birregurra, Cororooke, Deans Marsh, Elliminyt, Forrest, Kawarren, Pennyroyal, Swan Marsh, Warncoort, CEF (Winchelsea), and Yeodene all being part of the thriving tennis community.

Junior tennis was introduced in the late 1950s and has since become a significant part of the association, representing 400 out of the total 480 participants. The association has seen continuous growth over the years, with records showing 24 senior teams and 14 junior teams in 1978. The association has awarded several life memberships to individuals who have made significant contributions to the success of the Polwarth and District Tennis Association.

One of the highlights of the association's calendar is the annual Grass Court Championships. Formerly held over two Sundays, the tournament now takes place in a single day to encourage greater participation. The Grass Court Championships include singles, doubles, and mixed doubles competitions. The championships have seen many repeat winners, with notable players such as Khan Beckett, Rhiannon White, and Lisa Crabbe leading the way in their respective categories.

In celebration of the association's 75th anniversary, a formal dinner ceremony was held, and a comprehensive history book was released. The book, titled “75 Year History of the Polwarth and District Tennis Association Inc and Tennis in the Region,” chronicles the league's rich history and includes information on all the clubs that have participated in the Polwarth region. The anniversary celebration also featured a scratch match between past and present players, showcasing the evolution of tennis equipment and attire throughout the years.
