About

RDA QLD, also known as Riding Develops Abilities, is a sports club located in Brisbane, Queensland. Established in 1988, it serves as the peak body for the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDAQ) in Queensland. RDAQ provides equine-assisted programmes designed to enrich the lives of children and adults living with disabilities throughout the state.

The main aim of RDAQ is to enable individuals with disabilities and volunteers to experience enjoyment, challenges, and achievements through participation in sporting, recreational, and therapeutic equestrian activities. RDA activities are tailored to improve the quality of life, help individuals achieve personal goals, and develop essential life skills among participants.

All RDAQ member centres are registered not-for-profit organisations, ranging from small centres in remote locations to large multiservice organisations in urban areas. These centres are assessed annually to ensure they meet strict accreditation and safety requirements. They deliver unique equine-assisted services that aim to build self-esteem, confidence, skills, and joy in people with disabilities, starting from the age of 3.

RDAQ values empowerment, inclusiveness, respect for diversity, ongoing improvement, accountability, and quality services. A disability is recognised as any condition that restricts a person's mental, sensory, and/or mobility functions, regardless of its cause or nature. RDAQ acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which their services are delivered.

The club also emphasises the importance of volunteers, who play a vital role in supporting the physical health and mental well-being of others. Volunteers, aged 12 and above, are welcomed to contribute their diverse skills and experiences to deliver RDA programmes. Those interested in volunteering can contact their nearest RDAQ centre to find out how they can make a difference and support individuals with disabilities.

RDAQ is committed to increasing access to accredited equine-assisted services, particularly in rural and remote communities. They are open to working with groups and organisations to achieve this goal. Those interested in collaborating with RDAQ can contact the club to discuss how they can assist their club or group in increasing access to accredited programmes in their community.

Overall, RDA QLD is a dedicated sports club that provides equine-assisted programmes to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities in Queensland. Through their professional and supportive services, RDAQ aims to empower individuals, promote inclusiveness, and improve the overall well-being of participants and volunteers alike.
