Salisbury Cycle Speedway Incorporated is a quality assured bicycle club and was formed over 40 years ago to fill a need within the Salisbury North area. The Club has a vibrant and positive minded committee which has excellent working relationships with Local Council and Local Community & Businesses. Racing most Saturday afternoons 12. 30pm start see calendar Our Club is an Active Australia Provider which is some what similar to a commercial company's Quality Assurance Certificate .
Active Australia is a Federal Government certification process for Sporting Clubs through out Australia . The sport of Cycle Speedway is racing bicycles on a short circuit dolomite track and was started in England shortly after World War Two. The bicycles have no brakes, gearing or dangerous fitments and is open all genders , ages, and nationalities. Riders can expect to pick up some knocks and grazes but generally , the sport is no more dangerous than other sports such as football or skateboarding.
Care is taken in the running of a race meeting with a referee in charge and First Aid facilities available. Salisbury Cycle Speedway's original and current aims are to promote a healthy, active family orientated sport within the community , which involves members from the ages of two years to no limit in individual and team competitions. From humble beginnings in the early 1970s , Salisbury Cycle Speedway has proven popular with local families and businesses , and quickly grew to become a dominant force in Cycle Speedway in South Australia. By regular training and programmed race meetings on Saturday afternoons , many of our participants are given an outlet for their boundless energies.
Through our sport we teach our riders bicycle discipline, co-ordination, general bicycle safety and good sportsmanship. Currently the sport is in Great Britain , Poland , USA (North Carolina ) and Australia , In Australia we mainly race in individual events each weekend and team racing i. e. Interclubs and League Racing through out the year.
The opportunity for riders to race at an International level can be achieved with International Tours every two years. This usually applies for riders over thirteen years of age on a 24 or 26 inch bikes. The division you race in depends on your age.
