Sangrok World Taekwondo Academy in Canberra is a family-oriented sports club with a strong emphasis on families training together. Located at Unit 3, 54 Hoskins Street, Mitchell, ACT, 2912, the academy believes that the benefits of training as a family outweigh any challenges that may arise. They welcome students of all ages and levels, with a few exceptions for safety reasons when young children are involved.
At Sangrok, family training is the core focus. While the majority of members are parents training alongside their children, the club also caters to adults, teens, and individual children. As a result, all classes are mixed in terms of ages and abilities. To facilitate effective training, the classes are split into adults and kids' groups when appropriate.
They offer a trial membership for $49 per person, which includes four weeks of unlimited classes and a new taekwondo uniform. There are no joining fees, and a money-back guarantee is provided.
Children aged 6 and under are welcome to train with Sangrok alongside a parent or another adult. After the trial period, training for children in this age group is offered for free when accompanied by an adult. Safety is a top priority at Sangrok, as they are a registered club and a member of Australian Taekwondo, the governing body for taekwondo in Australia. They adhere to a national governance framework that includes policies on member and child safety, harassment and discrimination, and complaint handling.
All instructors hold an active first aid certificate and an ACT Working with Vulnerable People card. Some instructors also have additional training and certification to coach students in Australian Taekwondo sanctioned competitions.
Sangrok takes pride in its strong Korean and international lineage. Master Pravin, in his role as part of Sangrok, is directly mentored by Chief Instructor Grand Master Chang, a respected figure in the taekwondo community with a 9th Dan Taekwondo and 8th Dan Hapkido ranking. This connexion enables Sangrok students to train globally with other Sangrok clubs and directly with one of the world's most experienced taekwondo Grand Masters in South Korea or Australia. The lineage of Sangrok can be traced back to Jidokwan, one of the nine founding schools of Taekwondo, which provides a unique opportunity for students to connect to taekwondo's Korean roots.
Sangrok follows and endorses the Kukkiwon method of Taekwondo.
One of the advantages of Sangrok is its permanent training facility. Unlike some other martial art schools, Sangrok operates from a dedicated and established location. This ensures that members have a consistent and reliable training environment.
