Shot Put is an Olympic 'Field' event which requires the athlete to 'put' a small, spherical, weighted ball as far as possible. The technique is more of a 'pushing' rather than a 'throwing' motion. The ball must be held next to the neck and under the chin, and must be thrown from this position in order to be considered as a 'legal' throw.
