South West Kart Club

The South West Kart Club, located in Cobden, Victoria, is a sports club that was established in August 1992. The club was formed by local members who had previously raced at the Geelong and Ballarat tracks. The primary objective of the club was to build a first-class bituminous track specifically for go-kart racing. After a significant amount of hard work from club members and the local community, the track was completed in March 1996.

The track at the South West Kart Club is an impressive 966 metres in length and 8 metres in width. It has received rave reviews for its excellent layout, long straights, plentiful passing positions, and the ability to accommodate large fields. The track has become a favourite for both local go karters and drivers from other clubs.

The club holds monthly “club days” on the last Sunday of every month (excluding December). These are relaxed and friendly events where club members can race each other for trophies. The racing starts at 11 am and concludes around 5 pm. In addition to the club days, the South West Kart Club also hosts two to three “open” meetings where go karters from other clubs can participate and compete for prizes.

Go Karting at the South West Kart Club is open to people of all ages. Children as young as 7 years old can start racing, and there is no age limit for the senior classes. The sport has strict rules and regulations in place to ensure fairness and promote driver skill while keeping costs to a minimum.

Go karts can be relatively affordable to get started, with second-hand karts starting around $1500 and maintenance costs averaging $50 per month.
