The Surat Bowls Club was formed following a meeting of interested people in the community in 1952. After four years of fund-raising and planning the green was laid and bowls commenced in 1956.
This saw the forming of the Surat Ladies Bowling Club in that year.
Mr. Keith Davidson from “Glenmore” being the president from 1952-56 followed by an annual election from then on.
The Club progressed and a Tip-Dwarf green was laid in 1979-80.
Major extensions were carried out on the Club House during 1982-83.
Lights were installed on the Green in 1988 courtesy of donations from members.
The Club has been operating continuously now for 56 years, with the club open each evening for members enjoyment.
The Club is run on a voluntary basis and is proud to be the alternative meeting place for those not interested in the hotel atmosphere. It is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike, to enjoy the hospitality of the club and enjoy the game of lawn bowls.
Hot meals, reasonably priced, are served each Friday night for members and guests.
Social bowls are played every Thursday night during summer months. Names in by 6. 30pm play at 7pm .
