About

Surf Life Saving Sydney is the administrative arm of Surf Life Saving for the fifteen Surf Life Saving Clubs located in Sydney. These clubs stretch from North Bondi south to Burning Palms in the Royal National Park. The primary role of SLS Sydney is to coordinate lifesaving activities, including club-based patrols and support services such as Off-Shore rescue boats, Rescue Water Craft (jet ski), Duty Officers, and Member Support Officers.

Surf Sports activities are also coordinated by SLS Sydney through competitions and coaching events, as well as representative teams. They have a team of trainers, assessors, and facilitators who provide an extensive and integrated award structure for surf lifesavers. The Junior Activities programme, also known as nippers, is a significant part of Surf Life Saving Sydney. It caters to 7,600 junior members between the ages of 5 and 13 years.

The programme serves as a stepping stone for many of their surf lifesavers and champion competitors of the future.

Surf Life Saving in Sydney is a vibrant volunteer community and emergency service organisation. They have 16,557 volunteer lifesavers who provide the Sydney community with a world-class water safety service. One of the primary achievements of this organisation is that they have never recorded a drowning between the flags while on patrol since their establishment in the early 1900s.

In addition to lifesaving, Surf Life Saving Sydney actively promotes and supports surf sports and competitions. These competitions, or surf carnivals, are held at various levels, including club, regional, state, national, and even international levels. Many surf lifesavers engage in regular competitions to maintain their skills and fitness.

Furthermore, Surf Life Saving Sydney is committed to providing training and education to its members. They have trainers and assessors from their fifteen clubs who deliver training for all awards under the Australian Lifesaving Academy NSW.

Surf Life Saving Sydney's Junior Activities (Nippers) programme is a significant part of their education initiatives. It caters to over 7,600 young surf lifesavers in training and is delivered through their fifteen surf clubs. The Sydney Nippers programme is proudly sponsored by Sydney Airport Corporation, and they have been working together for 13 years.

Surf Life Saving Sydney is always involved in the latest events and activities. They regularly update their news section with information on upcoming events, courses, and opportunities. For example, they offer a RWC Trainee opportunity, and expressions of interest are sought from experienced members. They also have courses like the SMAR course and events such as the Junior Lifesaver of the Year and various development camps for different age groups.

Overall, Surf Life Saving Sydney is an integral part of the Sydney community, providing exceptional water safety services, promoting surf sports, and delivering education and training to its members.
