Sydney Hapkido Academy® officially started in 1997 at the Eastern Suburbs PCYC and before that briefly in Randwick. The Academy is the oldest Hapkido movement in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, with its origins originally established from Snr John Espinosa of JAE Hapkido Dojang Australia (formed in 1986). John was a well respected Hapkido Instructor of the time who initially learned from Mathew Kim (Australian Hapkido Association) and also from Chon Wu Li. The orginal Dojang was based in Maroubra Junction and was very popular at the time because of its strict disciplinary style.
This foundation is what Sydney Hapkido Academy® has continued to teach along with teaching proven effective self-defence and true Hapkido techniques to its students. We have also developed and improved the old syllabus and will strive to further improve this for our students. Not only do we provide children classes but also mixed classes for all ages. The classes teach discipline, respect, and self-confidence.
We are now also located in the St George area of Rockdale. We always welcome new students with a smile and encourage them to learn at their own pace.
