Team Buller Riders (TBR) is a freestyle skiing and snowboarding club based at Mt Buller in Mansfield. With a rich history dating back to 1986, TBR is known for its expertise in the Olympic disciplines of mogul skiing, slopestyle/big air (ski and snowboard), and aerial skiing.
What sets TBR apart from other programmes is their genuine passion for the disciplines they operate in. This passion drives their continuous effort to refine their programme structure and coaching techniques. The club's focus is on the maximised all-round development of their athletes, and they have a strong history of professionalism, cutting-edge training programmes, and close relationships with the world's best coaches and athletes.
TBR's main focus is on developing the technical skill platform required for athletes to improve, reach their full potential, and achieve personal best results in competition. The club strives to create a professional, inclusive, understanding, fun, and supportive environment for all athletes.
The coaches at TBR are the best riders on the mountain, many of whom are past competitors who excel at creating a learning environment that inspires athletes to be passionate and motivated to improve every day. The success of TBR over the years is a testament to the quality of programmes and support they offer their athletes.
One of TBR's most significant achievements is Australia's four Olympic aerial skiing medals, with athletes Alisa Camplin and Lydia Lassila winning gold and bronze medals each. Other notable accomplishments include a gold medal to Jakara Anthony in mogul skiing, Australia's first skiing X-Games gold medal won by Anna Segal, 9 world championship gold medals, 17 Olympians, and numerous World Cup medals. TBR Snowboard has also trained legendary snowboarders such as Scotty James, a 3-time World Champion and two-time Olympic medallist.
TBR is an essential part of the Australian Winter Sports Olympic Pathway and closely linked with Snow Australia and the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA). These relationships provide TBR athletes with access to some of the best programme design, coaching, and training facilities in the world.
TBR offers various programmes for different age groups and disciplines. They have the Grom Under 14 programme that focuses on all elements of freestyle and skiing, the All-Mountain 14 and up programme for all elements of freestyle and skiing, the Mogul 14 and up programme for competitive mogul training, the Slopestyle 14 and up programme for competitive park skiing in slopestyle and big air, and the Snowboard 12 and up programme for all mountain and competitive park riding in slopestyle and big air.
In addition to on-snow training at Mt Buller, TBR also operates off-snow programmes to support and extend the athletes' training. These programmes include water jump training, strength/fitness, agility training, and the TBR Overseas Camp, which will return in 2023/2024.
TBR organises a number of world-class events to provide their athletes with opportunities to test their skills in fun, friendly environments. Some of their leading events include the ABOM Mogul Challenge, the Junior National Mogul Championships (jNats), the Victorian & Australian Interschools competitions, the Mt Buller Junior Slopestyle Event, and FreeBOM.
