Welcome to fly our sites and participate in our club activities. However, becoming a member provides you with added benefits and supports the ongoing maintenance and development of our sites.
The Dynasoarers Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club is based in Aireys Inlet - Fairhaven, along the stunning Surf Coast region in Australia. With a thriving membership of over 30 pilots, we are dedicated to promoting and enjoying the exhilarating sports of hang gliding and paragliding.
One of our main objectives is to assist in the maintenance and preservation of local hang gliding sites in the Surf Coast/Geelong region. If you are planning to fly at our sites for the first time, we are more than happy to provide you with information, guidance, or even find another pilot to fly with you. Safety is a top priority for us, so we strongly recommend that you contact us beforehand, especially if you intend to fly at Spion, which requires endorsement.
Every first Saturday night of the month, we gather for a monthly meeting that includes a social dinner and a few drinks. This is a great opportunity for pilots and their partners to meet and have a good time. Our gatherings have a mix of experienced and novice pilots, creating a supportive environment for those who are just starting out. You will find plenty of people willing to show you the local sites and help you make those first few hours count.
The meeting is held at different venues each month in the Geelong area, and attendees usually start arriving from 7pm.
The Dynasoarers have access to a number of fantastic flying sites along the coast between Ocean Grove and Portland. Our most popular site is Spion Kop, also known as Fairhaven, Aireys, or Moggs Creek. To fly at Spion, you need to be endorsed, a process that only takes a few minutes. If the weather conditions allow, we also have the Coast Run from Winkipop launch at Bells Beach, stretching all the way to Apollo Bay.
For more information on our sites, you can refer to our Spion site guide and Bells Beach site guide. Additionally, the Victorian Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (VHPA) provides a detailed guide to various Australian sites, including ours.
Membership of The Dynasoarers Club is open to both hang gliding and paragliding enthusiasts. While our club was originally a hang gliding club, we now have an increasing number of paraglider pilots who make up around a third of our membership. We also have members who fly both. On light wind days, we have an active community of powered paragliding and hang gliding enthusiasts in the Geelong area.
Apart from flying, we organise various annual events for our members to socialise and explore new flying destinations. Some of these events include the Queen's Birthday Portland Trip in June, a parachute repack night at the start of the flying season, and the Melbourne Cup Bright trip in November.
Membership of The Dynasoarers Club is $10 per annum, which helps cover club expenses and supports the maintenance of our sites. You can pay your membership fees at our December Annual General Meeting (AGM) or easily hand it to our treasurer, Aaron, on the hill or at a meeting. Alternatively, you can pay via bank transfer, quoting your HGFA number and name, and letting us know that you've paid.
Whether you choose to become a member or not, we welcome you to fly our sites and join us in experiencing the thrill of hang gliding and paragliding in the beautiful Surf Coast region. Contact us for more details or to get involved with The Dynasoarers!
