The Ulysses Club Gladstone Branch (Qld, Australia) is a well-established and thriving sports club located in Gladstone. The club was formed in May 1993, with an initial gathering held at Ned Heritage’s home in response to an advertisement placed in the local newspaper. Since then, the club has grown to include over 130 local members.
Membership of the Ulysses Club Gladstone Branch is open to individuals who are at least 40 years old and hold a valid motorcycle rider's licence. The club also accepts applicants who reside in states that allow the riding of a motorcycle trike with a car licence, provided they present trike registration papers and proof of age. Additionally, spouses or regular partners who are also 40 years and older may apply for membership.
The club is led by a dedicated committee, with John serving as the President, Stuart as the Vice President, John Watson as the Secretary, Geoff Cue as the Ledger-ndary Treasurer, and Alan O'Rourke as the Welfare Officer. The committee is supported by committee members Jenny Herger, Sandra Watson, and Erin Luck.
The Ulysses Club Gladstone Branch organises monthly meetings, which are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at The Harvey Road Tavern. Some members choose to start the evening with dinner at 6pm for a catch-up before the official meeting begins at 7:30pm. In addition to the monthly meetings, the club hosts a weekly social catch-up and possible ride, known as the OMO Ride. The destination for the ride is decided on the day, and riders gather at the Spinnaker Park Cafe every Thursday morning.
Social time begins at 9am, and the ride sets off at 10am.
Ride information and updates are regularly shared on the club's Facebook group, and members are encouraged to check with the Ride Leader or the group for any changes or additions to the rides. The club has various ride start points, including The Harvey Road Tavern, Kirkwood Shopping Centre, Botanic Garden front carpark, Blaine Drive Servo, Calliope Puma Servo, and the café at Benaraby.
Throughout its history, the Ulysses Club Gladstone Branch has celebrated the contributions of its members. In 2013, the idea of a Branch Member of the Year trophy was introduced by Ken Sevenoaks. The trophy, a carved “Old Man,” was created by past Branch President Phil Brown and placed on a base by WoodDuck (Howard Parker). This trophy serves as a symbol of recognition and appreciation for the dedication and involvement of club members.
The Ulysses Club Gladstone Branch welcomes motorcycle enthusiasts who meet the membership criteria and are interested in joining a vibrant and supportive community of riders. Whether you are a seasoned rider or someone returning to the world of motorcycling, the club offers the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, participate in social activities, and enjoy the thrill of riding through the beautiful Gladstone region.
