Unity Aikido is a style of Japanese Martial Way that has evolved from the teachings of Master Professor Kenji Tomiki, the founder of the Japan Aikido Association. The technical direction and syllabus of Unity Aikido are overseen by Hanifa Leoni Macfarlane Sensei, who holds a 7th Dan rank in Unity Aikido and an 8th Dan rank in the Japan Aikido Association. Sensei Macfarlane is also an NCAS Level 3 Coach and an Australian Sports Commission qualified Sports Coach for Active After School Communities in Tasmania.
The club focuses on self-defence, sport, art form, and fitness. In Hobart, classes are held at the Buckingham Bowls Club in New Town. Adults and older children can attend the general class on Tuesdays from 6-8pm and the Saturday class from 10. 30am-12.

The class fees in Hobart are $20 per class, and an annual membership of UAAInc. Is required for all students for insurance coverage. The fee for adults is $75, $35 for kids, and $15 for the second family member. Unity Aikido also offers classes for Samurai Kids and Adults & Teens in Tasmania and New South Wales.
The club's teachers include Hanifa Leoni Macfarlane Sensei, who is the Headmaster and holds a 7th Dan rank in Unity Aikido and an 8th Dan rank in the Japan Aikido Association. James Carolan Sensei, a 4th Dan, is in charge of the Tasmanian classes. Other instructors include Carol Phillips, 2nd Dan, Christine Benbow, 2nd Dan, and Dr Lito Mercado, 1st Dan.
Unity Aikido's style is based on the system developed by Professor Kenji Tomiki, the Master of Aikido and Judo and the founder of the Japan Aikido Association. The style incorporates the Seven Stages of growth and skill in Aikido. Sensei Macfarlane is a direct student of Tomiki Sensei and has also studied under Ohba Sensei, the succeeding headmaster of JAA, and other Masters of Aiki.
Unity Aikido prides itself on being a development of the traditional Japanese fighting art, Aiki Jujitsu. Tomiki Aikido, the style practised at Unity Aikido, has a technical relationship with Judo, which was founded by Master Jigaro Kano and was the sensei of Professor Tomiki. The style combines the principles of Ki/Spirit with Ju/gentleness or accord. The Ki of Unity Aikido is HU KI, a deeply effective method.
The practise of Unity Aikido is geared towards health, fitness, and self-defence for both adults and children. The club is affiliated with the Australian Jujitsu Federation, which is responsible for delivering the National Couching Accreditation Scheme under the Australian Sports Commission. Unity Aikido's senseis are NCAS accredited coaches and hold Dan ranks in Unity Aikido.
