Victorian Speed Boat Club

Of the lake, spectators can see the boats zooming across the water and experience the thrill and excitement of the races. The Victorian Speed Boat Club hosts various racing events throughout the year, including the prestigious E. C. Griffith Cup, the Eppalock Gold Cup, and Club Day races.

Since its establishment in 1948, the Victorian Speed Boat Club has been actively involved in boat racing and charity initiatives. Past partnerships have included the Bentleigh Youth Club, Prince Henry's Hospital, South Melbourne Lions Club, and Camp Quality. The races conducted by the Victorian Speed Boat Club consist of power boat races over three or four laps on a course that spans 1. 5 to 2. 4 kilometres. The courses are designed in an oblong or triangular shape, tailored to the specific venue.

The club offers a wide range of racing classes for inboard boats, including Unlimited Hydroplane, Unlimited Displacement, Oz Lite Boats, and Hydroplane and Displacement classes. The boats in these classes are powered by high-performance engines, producing impressive power outputs that enable speeds of up to 170mph.

Outboard racing is also a prominent feature of the club's events. The races showcase some of the fastest boats on the circuit, with Formula One Tunnel hulls achieving remarkably quick lap times and demonstrating incredible cornering and acceleration abilities. Outboard racing classes range from Unlimited to 25HP, catering to a diverse range of boat enthusiasts. Additionally, the club offers a special racing class for junior drivers between the ages of twelve and sixteen, providing young individuals an opportunity to experience the excitement of competitive boat racing.

The Victorian Speed Boat Club is affiliated with the Australian Power Boat Association (APBA) and operates under its control.
