The Wahroonga Rugby Club, located in the Ku-Ring-Gai Council in Australia, is a sports club known for developing great kids through rugby. With a range of programmes catering to boys and girls of all ages, from 2 to 82, Wahroonga Rugby Club ensures that everyone has a place to play. Whether it's 15 or 7-a-side, Wahroonga offers a game for all.
The club's Minis Rugby programme provides an opportunity for kids between the ages of 4 to 9 to develop their rugby skills and learn valuable life lessons. Through teamwork and camaraderie, Minis kids meet new friends, learn what it means to be part of a team, and have a great time outdoors.
In the Juniors Rugby programme for ages 10 and up, players not only learn the skills of rugby but also essential life skills such as teamwork, respect, integrity, determination, and humility. Wahroonga Rugby Club prides itself on fostering a sense of community. As a not-for-profit junior rugby club run by parent volunteers, joining the Tigers means becoming part of a broader community. The club encourages players to give back by refereeing or mentoring younger players, and many past parents and ex-players remain actively involved in the Tigers Community.
The clubhouse, renovated in 2009, serves as a central hub for club meetings, fundraising events, and social gatherings. With a balcony offering a sideline view of the game, it is a fantastic spot for parents to cheer on the Tigers. On Friday nights, the 'Tiger Tavern' serves bottled beer, wine, and snacks, providing a place for parents to catch up and support the players. Every Sunday afternoon, the Toothless Tigers, the club's Golden Oldies team, welcomes players, parents, siblings, and friends to join them for touch footy and plenty of laughs.
One of the highlights of Wahroonga Rugby Club is its Japan Tour. Since 1997, players from the U11 & U12 age groups have the opportunity to travel to Japan and be billeted with families of players from the Sanda Rugby Club. The tour includes playing rugby, experiencing Japanese culture with a host family, and visiting iconic locations such as Hiroshima and Universal Studios.
For players aged thirty-five and over, Wahroonga Rugby Club offers Golden Oldies Rugby. This social and inclusive programme focuses on participation rather than winning, catering to players of all abilities. The Wahroonga Toothless Tigers play touch footy every Sunday at Cliff Oval and welcome new players to join them for a game.
The Wahroonga Rugby Club is grateful for the support of its sponsors, including the NSW Government, who have provided funding through the Local Sport Grant Programme (LSGP). With a strong sense of community, a commitment to player development, and a range of programmes for players of all ages and abilities, Wahroonga Rugby Club is a destination for rugby enthusiasts in the Ku-Ring-Gai Council area.
