Weightlifting is an Olympic sport which consists of two types of competition lifts: the snatch, and the clean and jerk. Athletes in weightlifting are graded into bodyweight and gender categories. They must attempt a maximum-weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weighted plates and have three attempts to complete a successful lift. The combined total of the highest two successful lifts determines the overall result.
