The Western Blues Little Athletics Centre, also known as Austral Little Athletics, is a sports club located in Sydney. The club promotes a strong sense of “Family, Fun, and Fitness” and aims to develop good sportsmanship, athletic skills, and self-esteem among its athletes. With a dedicated Committee that complies with Australian guidelines for Child Safe Centres, the club provides a safe environment for children to learn and grow.
Western Blues welcomes children of all athletic abilities and skill levels. The club encourages each child to strive for their personal best and actively supports their athletic development and fitness. Additionally, Little Athletics serves as a place for kids to make new friends and engage in a social setting. The club operates during the summer months, with Club Competition nights taking place on Friday evenings starting at 6:30pm.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the centre, Western Blues relies on the assistance of parents and volunteers. On Club Competition nights, parents are needed to help run specific age groups, record results, assist in the canteen, and handle equipment setup and packing. Little Athletics centres cannot operate without the support of parents, and the club encourages all parents to become involved in their children's sporting development.
Little Athletics NSW governs all Little Athletics centres, providing guidance and direction. Unlike many other sports, Little Athletics allows parents to be fully involved in their children's sporting journey, going beyond just being spectators. The club caters to athletes aged 3 to 17 years old, fostering an inclusive environment that removes barriers to involvement and welcomes people with disabilities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Western Blues closely follows the guidelines issued by Little Athletics NSW. The club prioritises the health and safety of its members, monitoring and evaluating developments related to the virus.
Western Blues Little Athletics was awarded the “Largest Increase In Registered Athletes Award” at the Little Athletics NSW 2019 Conference, highlighting the club's growth and success. The club expresses gratitude to all the volunteers and supporters who contributed to this achievement and looks forward to having everyone return for the upcoming season.
The club also encourages parents to take advantage of the Active Kids programme provided by the NSW Government. This programme offers two $100 vouchers per year to help with sport and active recreation costs for school-enrolled children. Western Blues provides information on how to claim the vouchers and maximise their benefits.
Results for Club Competition events can be checked through the ResultsHQ system once the season begins. Parents can log in using their provided login details to review their child's performance. Volunteers are needed to assist with entering results into the system, and training is provided for those interested in helping out.
Important dates and updates for the 2022/2023 season can be found on the club's Facebook page. Sprints and throws training sessions are available, and the first night of the season serves as a trial and orientation for athletes. Registration pack and trophy collection are scheduled for a specific date and time, allowing members to gather the necessary materials for the upcoming season.
At Western Blues Little Athletics Centre, athletes of all abilities are welcome, and the club strives to provide a supportive, encouraging, and friendly environment. Join the club to experience the joy of athletics, develop skills, and make lifelong friendships.
