Wishart Sharks

The Wishart Sharks Swim Club is a vibrant and inclusive sports club based in Brisbane, Australia. Located at the Wishart State School pool on Morella St, Wishart, the club is dedicated to providing an active swimming environment for the local community.

The club welcomes swimmers of all ages and abilities, including parents, grandparents, and guardians. They encourage everyone in Wishart and the surrounding areas to join in and compete in their club meet, which takes place every Friday night throughout the swimming season. The swimming season runs from the first week in Term 4 until the last week of Term 1 the following year, excluding school holidays.

To swim at club nights, individuals must complete the online membership payment and forms. The easy-to-use Qkr! App is available for sign-up and allows members to make the Club Season Levy payment per family and fill in the necessary medical forms. Step-by-step instructions for using the app are provided, ensuring a smooth sign-up process.

On club nights, gates open at 5:30 pm, and it is important for children to be supervised throughout the event. The evening kicks off with a 15m race designed for swimmers who are unsure if they can complete a 25m swim. This event starts around 6 pm, just before the main races commence. No nomination is required for this race, and club seniors and family members are present to provide support.

The 25m, 50m, and 100m races then begin at approximately 6:10 pm. Swimmers are called to marshal for each event. Club seniors are available to assist those who are new to swimming or lack confidence in swimming 25m. The club night concludes around 8 pm to 8:30 pm, although families have the flexibility to leave once they have finished competing.

To keep participants fueled, a canteen and BBQ are available on club nights, serving a variety of snacks, drinks, burgers, chicken skewers, and sausages. The club relies on volunteers to run the events and encourages members to sign up for volunteer opportunities.
