About

Wolves Martial Arts is a prominent sports club in Sydney that has been teaching the martial arts of Taekwondo, Haidong Gumdo, and Hapkido for over 30 years. The club, located in the Blue Mountains, caters to families who are interested in learning and enjoying these ancient Korean martial arts.

Taekwondo, the club's flagship martial art, focuses on foot and fist techniques. It welcomes participants of all ages and genders, making it highly accessible. Wolves Martial Arts encourages families to train together, fostering a sense of unity and fun.

Haidong Gumdo, an elegant and powerful Korean sword martial art, offers a solution to the stresses of modern life. Apart from physical training, it emphasises etiquette, self-control, meditation, and internal breathing exercises, providing students with improved physical and mental health.

Hapkido, known as Wolves Streetwise Hapkido in the club, is a street-style self-defence system that utilises joint locks, grappling, strikes, takedowns, and ground fighting techniques. Similar to other martial arts, it incorporates kicks, punches, and strikes, and introduces weapon training with short sticks, bō staffs, and bamboo canes.

Established in 1993 by Master Instructor Andrew Johnston, Wolves Martial Arts prides itself on being a family-friendly club. It offers students valuable life skills that can be applied to their everyday lives through the practise of Taekwondo, Haidong Gumdo, or Streetwise Hapkido. The club's commitment to customer service and professional programmes has contributed to its growth over the years.

For juniors, Wolves Martial Arts provides age-specific classes called the Ninja Wolf Pack and Commando Wolves. These classes, tailored for children aged 5-8 and 9-12, respectively, focus on developing focus, concentration, and behavioural boundaries in a supportive and respectful environment.

Teenagers and adults can participate in the Senior Programmes, designed to get both mind and body into shape while learning self-defence techniques. These programmes are suitable for individuals aged 10 to 65 years, and no prior experience in martial arts or fitness level is necessary. Wolves Martial Arts ensures that participants feel comfortable by offering classes appropriate for their level of experience.

Wolves Martial Arts holds Taekwondo classes five nights a week, Haidong Gumdo classes three nights a week, and Streetwise Hapkido once a week at five different locations throughout the Blue Mountains. To help potential students determine their interest in Taekwondo, Haidong Gumdo, or Hapkido, the club offers the first two lessons for free. This allows individuals to gain a better understanding of these martial arts while also providing an opportunity to make new friends, gain confidence, improve fitness, concentration, and learn self-defence techniques.

The club's owner and Master Instructor, Andrew Johnston, has over 30 years of experience in training, competing, and coaching in martial arts. His expertise and dedication contribute to the high-quality instruction and guidance provided at Wolves Martial Arts.
