Woonona Boardriders

Woonona Boardriders is a sports club located in Wollongong, Australia. Established in 1975, it is the oldest boardriders club in the Illawarra region. The club was founded by Barry Stace and Rob Allen, who initially planned to run a small contest with 18 surfers. However, the overwhelming response from 34 people at the meeting made them realise that they had something special.

With over 100 members in its inaugural year, Woonona Boardriders enjoyed great success at local, state, and national levels over the next three decades. In 2003, the club underwent a rejuvenation period under the leadership of life member Paul Charlton, Ben Starr, Josh Skipp, and Ben Apps. This revitalisation attracted new members and sponsors, leading to the club's continued growth and success.

Today, Woonona Boardriders has a membership base of over 150 and a strong focus on junior participation. The club is committed to nurturing the next generation of young surfers and maintaining its proud history. Participants of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds are encouraged and welcomed to join the club. Whether you are interested in competitive surfing or simply want to take part in friendly heats with like-minded surfers, Woonona Boardriders offers a place for everyone.

The club holds various events and contests throughout the year. The contest locations primarily include Woonona Beach, but Northside, located on the southern end of Bulli Beach, is used in the event of specific conditions such as strong southerly winds. The official call on competition day is announced on the club's Facebook page.

Woonona Boardriders is run by a dedicated committee, led by Club President Marc Robson. The committee includes a Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Sponsor Liaison, BBQ and Fundraiser coordinators, Women's/Girls coordinators, Micro Grom coordinator, Pointscore Marshall, Social Media Liaison, Junior Development Manager, Competition Manager, and Social Manager. This diverse committee ensures the smooth functioning of the club and caters to the needs of all members.
