Worrigee Equestrian Common is a well-established sports club located in Shoalhaven City Council, Australia. Situated 3. 5 km east of Nowra on Worrigee Road, the club spans across 10. 44 hectares of beautiful land generously donated by Olympic Bronze Medallist Mervyn Bennett and his family.
This exclusive equestrian facility is dedicated to serving the equestrian community in the region.
The Common is managed by a devoted group of volunteers from local equestrian clubs, with the support and guidance of Shoalhaven City Council. The council has been instrumental in providing equipment and funding for the continuous improvement and upgrading of the club's facilities. Merv Bennett, the Olympic medallist, remains actively involved in the Common's operations.
The clubhouse at Worrigee Equestrian Common is strategically positioned on a bank overlooking the main arena, offering excellent viewing opportunities for spectators. The clubhouse features canteen facilities, a spacious administration area, an announcer's box equipped with a P. A. system, and a private scorer's room.
The facility also includes five toilets, two of which are inside the clubhouse and three located outside. The outdoor toilets are fitted with hot showers for added convenience.
In addition to the main clubhouse, there are two other toilet blocks on the Common grounds. One is situated at the southern end, housing two toilets and two hot showers. The other block, located at the northern end, consists of three “fillies,” one “colt” toilet, and an all-access toilet designed to cater to the needs of individuals with disabilities.
The Common boasts 149 timber yards, each measuring approximately 3. 6 × 3. 6 metres. These yards are spread among the trees on the eastern side of the main arena and are equipped with metal gates or slip rails.
Limited powered sites are also available.
For the convenience of visitors, the Common is located in proximity to shopping centres, such as the one on Kalander Street in East Nowra and another on Isa Road. These centres offer a range of amenities, including a petrol station, butcher, baker, chemist, supermarket, and newsagent. The Shoalhaven Sportsman's Club is also nearby, providing a place for relaxation and leisure.
Visitors to Worrigee Equestrian Common have various accommodation options within a 10-minute drive from the venue. Several motels are available, along with a selection of restaurants, and a range of attractions in and around Nowra.
For casual riders, the Common is open from dawn to dusk, allowing them to enjoy riding at their convenience. However, please note that public access may be restricted during booked events. Visitors are encouraged to check the Common's booking calendar for updates and event schedules.
Horse owners in New South Wales must be aware of specific regulations regarding horse movements and Transported Stock Statements (TSS). These regulations apply to instances such as moving horses for farrier services, to new grazing blocks, recreational rides outside organised events or exempt activities, breeding purposes, riding lessons, or trail rides. Booking the Common for events or activities is a straightforward process. Individuals wishing to book the venue can check the availability on the calendar and complete the provided booking form. A current Certificate of Currency is required, and a $10 non-refundable deposit must be submitted along with the form. Completed forms can be emailed to the Booking Officer at worrigeecommon@gmail.
