Wynyard Aero Club

Wynyard Aero Club is a friendly and welcoming community-based association located in Waratah-Wynyard Council, Tasmania. The club is home to a privately operated flying school and offers invitation to all with an interest in aviation to visit and join the club.

The club's clubhouse, situated at the western end of Airport Street, provides a comfortable and social meeting place for visiting pilots and aviation enthusiasts. The clubhouse offers unobstructed views of the Wynyard Airport flight and airside operations. It features a licenced bar with limited operating hours, a fully equipped kitchen, and a large undercover BBQ area.

The club owns two large hangars that are available for rent to members with aircraft. These hangars provide a secure and convenient space for aircraft storage.

Wynyard Aero Club organises regular flying competitions and fly away events, as well as hosting evening functions and barbecues. The club has an active social calendar, ensuring there are plenty of opportunities for members to connect and engage with fellow aviation enthusiasts.

Whether you're a complete novice, highly experienced pilot, or simply have an interest in aviation, you will be warmly welcomed at Wynyard Aero Club. The clubhouse is generally open on weekends, and other days can be arranged by appointment.

For visiting pilots, the club offers hospitality and invites them to fly in and enjoy the facilities. The club operates on a Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) of 126. 90 and has an Automated Weather Information Service (AWIS) on 133. 35.

The club also provides flying training for individuals who dream of learning to fly. With the combined efforts of a proficient Flying School and a supportive Flying Club, Wynyard Aero Club offers an ideal learning environment. The club has a designated area in the clubhouse for flying training, a modern 'light sport' aircraft available for hire, and a resident chief flying instructor.

Prospective students can book a half-hour trial instruction flight to experience hands-on flying with a state-of-the-art recreational aeroplane. The club offers gift vouchers for trial instruction flights, which make for excellent presents. The flights are filmed using a GoPro camera, and copies of the flight can be taken home on a memory stick.
