The Yoga Institute is a sports club located in Sydney that is dedicated to providing high-quality yoga education and mentoring. The institute is deeply rooted in the ancient wisdom and traditions of Sri T. Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar, bringing their holistic yoga teachings to life in a modern context.
One of the main offerings at The Yoga Institute is their Registered Yoga Teacher Training programme. This programme is designed to help individuals who have a love for yoga become confident and capable yoga teachers. Through their comprehensive training, students will emerge with the knowledge and skills to guide others in their yoga practise.
The Yoga Institute also values and respects the traditional custodians of the land on which their centre is based, the Cammeraygal people of the Eora nation. They acknowledge the importance of honouring the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and pay their respects to Elders past and present.
In addition to teacher training, The Yoga Institute offers a variety of yoga studies, yoga therapy, continuing education, events, and retreats. They believe in the importance of lifelong learning and provide opportunities for individuals to deepen their understanding and practise of yoga.
One specific course offered at The Yoga Institute is Yoga Sutra Studies with Michael de Manincor. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali form the foundation of all yoga teachings and are considered the “Heart of Yoga” and a guidebook to life. In this 6-week course, students will explore the conceptual framework and major themes of the Yoga Sutras, as well as their relevance to modern yoga practise and personal transformation. Michael de Manincor, who studied under TKV Desikachar, brings his in-depth understanding and practical knowledge of the sutras to provide a unique learning experience.
Students who have taken the Yoga Sutra Studies course rave about Michael's teaching style and ability to explain the concepts in ways that make sense and have a profound impact on their lives. The course does not require a textbook, but students are recommended to read “The Heart of Yoga” by T. K. V Desikachar as a companion to their studies.
Classes at The Yoga Institute are held in 6-week blocks on Thursday evenings. Students have the option to join the classes live online via Zoom or attend in person at their Cammeray premises. The institute looks forward to offering in-person classes to Sydney-based students in the future.
Whether someone is looking to become a yoga teacher, deepen their own practise, or learn more about the ancient teachings of yoga, The Yoga Institute in Sydney is dedicated to providing high-quality education and mentoring for all.
