About
Zenyo Judo, as part of the Melbourne Budo Academy, teaches traditional Kodokan Judo.
We train on Monday from 4. 30 – 6 (juniors) and Saturday 2 – 4.
Judo is mainly known as a sport, but it's founder, Jigoro Kano, intended it to be a way. A way of moving, cooperating, living and knowing with Ju (often translated as gentleness) as a guiding virtue. Judo was formulated from Jujutsu schools, where lethal combat techniques were taught, to become a system that could be safely practised in the dojo and applied in demonstrations and competition. Throwing and falling are essential aspects of Judo practise, but pinning and locking techniques are also part of Judo.
The instructor at Zenyo is Damon Ellis, who has been practising Judo for over 15 years.
