Aakaar Dances, located in Watford, is a dance school that specialises in Indian Classical and Bollywood dances. Founded by Shemanti, a passionate dancer herself, Aakaar Dances aims to introduce the magic of dance into the lives of children.
Shemanti's love for dance started at a young age when she began training in Indian classical dances, specifically Kathak and Kuchipudi. However, as life got busy with career, family, and kids, her dancing took a backseat. After a hiatus of 15 years, Shemanti reconnected with her love for dance when she stumbled upon her ghungroos (traditional ankle bells worn during Indian classical dance) one morning. This rekindled passion led her to establish Aakaar Dances.
The name “Aakaar” means “shape” in Hindi, reflecting the intent of shaping young souls into spirited adults under the physical and emotional influence of dance. Aakaar offers classes to girls between the ages of 5 and 10, with a focus on laying a solid foundation for performing arts. The classes emphasise strength, technique, posture, and confidence.
One of the highlights of being a part of Aakaar Dances is the term end performance. All Aakaar students have the opportunity to showcase their talent and progress on various platforms, giving them a chance to share their achievements with family and friends. This performance is a culmination of their hard work and dedication throughout the term.
