About

Abbotsbury Swannery, located in Dorset near Weymouth, is a popular tourist attraction and bird watching area. It is home to the world's only managed colony of nesting Mute Swans, making it a unique and fascinating place to visit.

Established by Benedictine Monks in the 1040s, the Swannery was originally used to farm swans for their banquets. Although the monastery was destroyed in 1539, the site has been under the stewardship of the Ilchester Estates ever since. Today, the Swannery covers 25 acres and offers visitors the opportunity to walk through the heart of the swan colony.

Visiting the Swannery is considered one of the best things to do in Dorset. Families can enjoy hand-feeding the swans at 12. 00 pm and 4. 00 pm daily, providing a unique and interactive experience.

The site is also popular with film makers and has been used as a location for Harry Potter filming.

In addition to the swans, the Swannery offers other attractions for visitors. There is a giant maze on-site, which is the largest willow maze in Dorset. Families can get lost and have fun finding their way out. There is also a swinging nests play area for children to enjoy.

After exploring the Swannery, visitors can relax and refuel at the charming Swannery Café. The café offers a variety of self-serve snacks and drinks, including espresso coffee, tea, hot chocolate, local beer, cider, and single-serve wines. They also have a selection of homemade cakes, cream teas, and sandwiches. The café is open every day from 10 am to 4.

30 pm.

For those looking to extend their visit, Luxury Dorset Cottages offer five beautiful 5-star cottages, with four located near all three Abbotsbury attractions. This allows visitors to stay in luxury accommodation conveniently close to the Swannery, Subtropical Gardens, and Children's Farm.

Abbotsbury Swannery is closed until the 2024 season, but when it reopens on March 16th, it promises to provide an unforgettable experience for visitors. Don't forget to follow them on social media for updates and information.
