Academy Arts by Ebony & Jalisa

Just a quick note from Jalisa to our wonderful sports community!

For those of you who might not know, Academy Arts by Ebony & Jalisa (AAEBJ) is our local dance and theatre school here in Neath Port Talbot. Established in September 2019, it’s all about giving young people some fantastic, life-changing opportunities beyond just dance and theatre.

Jalisa Phoenix-Roberts and Ebony Phoenix-Roberts, our founders, have experienced first-hand just how positive being part of dance and theatre groups can be. Their dream? To share that magic with our students. Think performing, traveling for competitions, making lifelong friends, and really unlocking their potential.

They’ve made it super affordable too, with discounts for additional needs, looked-after children, and siblings. No one should miss out because of financial barriers.

In 2021, the team spruced up the lower floor of a Grade 2 Listed building, now called Unit 6 by Ebony & Jalisa. It’s got a generous waiting area for parents, a snug dance studio with mirrors, a staff room, a kids’ 'chill out' spot, and free on-site parking. They want it to feel like a second home, where everyone’s safe and inspired to get creative.

Our AAEBJ family includes some lovely, dedicated folks. Jalisa and Ebony are at the helm as principals. Ms Guzel handles ballet, and Paulette Andrews keeps everything ticking over as the secretary. Jolene Hughes and Liane Jones head up the committee, making sure the school runs smoothly. Connor Strange, our webmaster and event media guru, keeps our online presence sparkling.
