Acton Badminton Club is a vibrant and diverse club located in London, specifically in the lively area of Acton. The club was established in 1978 and has since become one of the top badminton clubs in West London. Our club is composed of individuals from all walks of life and of varying ages, united by their shared passion for friendly, competitive badminton.
The name “Acton” is derived from the Old English words “Ac” meaning oak and “tun” meaning enclosed garden, hence the oak leaf featured in our distinctive logo. We take pride in not only providing a space for members to enjoy the sport they love but also fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie. We love to socialise and often gather at the local pub after club nights. Our dedicated Social Secretaries organise a range of exciting events throughout the year, including Christmas dinners, social nights, picnics, and birthday celebrations.
At Acton Badminton Club, we currently boast a membership of 34 individuals, and we have five teams competing in the highly competitive Middlesex and Hammersmith leagues. We are constantly seeking talented intermediate to advanced ladies and high intermediate to advanced men's players to join our league and county level teams. If you believe you possess the skills and dedication necessary to support our teams, we encourage you to submit your details, and we will extend an invitation for you to join a session as a guest. However, please understand that if you are not a suitable fit for our club, we may have to regretfully decline your membership.
Rest assured, though, that we will not charge any guest fees.
To ensure the highest quality experience for our members, we use Yonex AS30 Shuttles during all club sessions. The sessions operate on a Peg board system, allowing the player assigned the first peg to select three additional players of their choice to form a game. This fair and inclusive process ensures that everyone has the opportunity to play with different individuals and experience a range of playing styles.
Our club operates on a season membership basis for both league and summer seasons. Non-members are welcome to participate on a pay-to-play basis for a limited period before being required to become members. Any guest fees paid will be deducted from the membership fees if you decide to join our club permanently. To join Acton Badminton Club, it is recommended that you possess a strong intermediate standard of play.

As part of our commitment to competitive play, Acton Badminton Club participates in the Middlesex Badminton League and the Hammersmith Badminton League. Our club currently fields five teams across these leagues, including the Open Doubles, Ladies Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Men's Doubles teams. We are actively seeking talented female players at intermediate and above levels to join our ladies and mixed teams. Sutharsan (San) serves as our talented Chairman, ensuring the smooth functioning of the club. Tom takes care of the club's finances as the Treasurer, while Jane expertly manages the club's administrative tasks as the Secretary. Ailsa handles our digital needs as the Digital Secretary, ensuring our online presence remains strong.
Our two Social Secretaries, Katrine and Callum, are responsible for organising various fun-filled events throughout the year. On the court, we are led by dedicated team captains, including Ankush, Kassy, Simon, Amit, and Sailesh (Slash), who helm our successful teams in the Middlesex and Hammersmith Leagues.
