Lifetime. I had the chance to study under Paul Araki-Metcalfe Sensei, Aikikai Aikido Dojo cho, a fifth dan black belt and Shihan in Kuroda Han, Yagyu Shinkage-Ryu, Heiho, Aratsu-Kai. This traditional Japanese sword style has a remarkable history and was chosen by the last three Shogun of Japan as the number one style above all others.

Paul Sensei has over 40 years of martial arts experience, having lived and trained around the world. He spent 10 years in Japan, living, working, and studying Aikido and the sword. He believes that understanding an Eastern art like Aikido requires a different approach than that of Western thinking. While Western methodologies focus on strength against strength, the Japanese have developed natural organic power by utilising the whole body, encompassing mind, body, and spirit.

Now, Paul Sensei is offering a rare opportunity to individuals, dojos, groups, and organisations worldwide who are interested in studying traditional Japanese sword. He is looking for a win-win scenario, where both parties benefit financially from the opportunity. Paul Sensei invites vetted groups and organisations to introduce traditional Japanese sword study as an additional course of study for their members.

Unlike traditional methods where students must go through years of study before being able to instruct others and charge a fee, Paul Sensei is offering this opportunity from the very beginning. He has developed a long-distance study course that can be utilised no matter where in the world you reside. He will also visit from time to time to instruct, review, and oversee ranking applications and exams.

As a Shihan of this particular sword style and holder of the traditional Kaiden Menkyo, Paul Sensei has the authority to instruct, teach, and rank all of his students. The study of the sword will not only enhance and refine hand, body, and footwork but will also provide a deeper understanding of the hand-to-hand skills of the samurai warrior.
