Welcome to Aikido UK, a renowned Aikido school located in London. Aikido is a dialogue of natural movement and our dedicated team has been teaching and supporting the spirit of Tomiki Aikido for many happy years. While we have made the difficult decision to no longer offer classes, we have maintained this website as a historic journal of the many enjoyable times we all experienced.
Aikido is a martial art that can benefit everyone, regardless of gender, age, or background. Attending regular and well-run Aikido classes can improve your health and fitness. Some are drawn to the formal and spiritual aspects of Aikido, while others are more interested in the physical side. The full and natural body movement of Aikido provides aerobic benefits to all practitioners.
Regular practise can lead to a fitter, suppler, and stronger body with improved flexibility, reflexes, and reactions.
At Aikido UK, we embrace the non-violent nature of Aikido, encouraging harmony of mind, body, and spirit, and the avoidance of confrontation. We believe that resolving conflicts peacefully is better for all parties involved. Through Aikido, students learn self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-defence techniques.
Aikido is the fastest-growing recreational activity in today's world, with origins in ancient Japanese fighting methods used and perfected by the Samurai. Joint locking techniques and body movements are incorporated into modern Aikido practises. Notably, even singer Elkie Brooks is a fan of Aikido.
To stay updated with Aikido events, grading dates, master classes, seminars, competitions, summer camp news, class venue/schedule changes, exchange pictures, and other relevant Aikido news, make sure to follow our social media pages and join our mailing list. We also offer beginners classes, women's Aikido, and ladies self-defence classes. For those not on Facebook, we have an email group where you can stay connected.
The principles of Aikido revolve around exploiting an opponent's weaknesses, such as joints, posture, and the mind. By turning an opponent's power against themselves using the exact degree of control required, Aikido neutralises their energy without causing harm. Aikido is not just about martial arts; it is a way of life that promotes harmony, peace, and helping others.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about Aikido UK. We hope that you too will benefit from the practise of Aikido.
