The club was originally established as Chingford Karate Club in 1985 and has since expanded its services to multiple locations, including North East London, Walthamstow, Chingford, Enfield, Hendon, Harlow, Barnet, Wanstead, Leyton, Woodford, Waltham Abbey, Epping, and Albany Karate Club in Enfield Highway. This extensive network allows individuals to have convenient access to their karate classes throughout the week.
The club offers a wide range of classes that cater to beginners, intermediate, and advanced Black and Brown Belt students, as well as instructors. Classes are available seven days a week, ensuring flexibility for individuals with varied schedules. The club also offers regular gradings and courses with renowned international karate instructors, providing students with valuable opportunities for growth and improvement. Additionally, as part of their commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all, all SKE (Shotokan Karate England) Clubs, including Albany Karate Club, have achieved the Safeguarding in Martial Arts Code, prioritising the protection and well-being of children and vulnerable adults.
The chief instructor of Albany Shotokan Karate Club, Sensei Rod Butler, brings over 45 years of experience in Shotokan Karate. He was a regular instructor at the Marshall St Dojo of Sensei Enoeda in London's West End and achieved his 4th Dan KUGB JKA under the late Sensei Enoeda in May 1999. Sensei Enoeda, the highly respected Chief Instructor of the KUGB and JKA, greatly influenced Sensei Rod Butler's training and teaching methods.
