Rebecca Garwood, the founder of Aqua Baths Children’s Swimming Lessons in Barnsley, is dedicated to offering top-notch swimming education for children. Established in April 2014 when she was just 16, Rebecca has built a reputable swimming school that focuses on small class sizes and specialises in disability swimming, ensuring inclusivity for all abilities. Classes occasionally feature teaching assistants, who might be trainee teachers or former pupils.
Rebecca’s qualifications are comprehensive, including STA Level 2 awards, certificates for teaching both adults and children with disabilities, and training in aquacise, pool emergency response, safeguarding, and first aid. She also holds STA tutor status and ASA Level 1 principles of swimming teaching, among other credentials.
Operational throughout the year except during the six-week summer break and certain periods over Christmas and New Year, Aqua Baths provides continuity and flexibility for parents and players. Rebecca’s personal holidays or training commitments are communicated well in advance, ensuring transparency and planning.
Beyond swimming lessons, Aqua Baths runs various STA courses via an Approved Training Centre. These include swimming teaching awards, pool emergency responder training, and industry-specific courses such as the Makaton introduction for swimming teachers, developed in collaboration with regional Makaton tutor Kerry Cawley. These courses are offered online through Cisco Webex.
For enquiries or bookings, Rebecca can be contacted via phone, email, or through the Aqua Baths Facebook page, with the school located at 358 New Road, Mapplewell.
Regarding COVID-19, attendees are informed of associated risks despite measures taken to minimise them. The school cannot guarantee the absence of infection and does not hold responsibility for any resulting illnesses. Rebecca reserves the right to cancel lessons due to pool issues or teacher illness, offering affected students a lesson credit for the following month unless a stand-in teacher is arranged.
Aqua Baths remains committed to delivering safe and inclusive swimming education to children in Barnsley, with a particular focus on personalised attention and specialised programmes for those with disabilities.
