Established in 2020, the school is dedicated to preserving the history, traditions, and philosophical teachings of the Korean Martial art of Soo Bahk Do. The aim of Arafura Moo Duk Kwan is to further the art into the Palmerston region.
Endorsed as an official Moo Duk Kwan Dojang (school), Arafura Moo Duk Kwan has a direct lineage that can be traced back to the founder of the Moo Duk Kwan, Chang Shi Ja Hwang Kee, and his son, the current Grandmaster Kwan Jang Nim H. C. Hwang.
As a part of the Australian Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation Region 1, Arafura Moo Duk Kwan has a strong connexion to the martial arts community. They are affiliated with Darwin Karate Kai and Austin Martial Arts, which have been teaching Soo Bahk Do since 1982 under the guidance of father and son Master Chris Austin (5th Dan) and Master Michael Austin (6th Dan).
The lead instructor of Arafura Moo Duk Kwan, Jarrad Fong, has been a student and assisting instructor of both Masters Austin for over 30 years. With his vast knowledge and experience, Jarrad has continued the Moo Duk Kwan journey to create a martial arts environment that focuses on the “betterment of the self”. This is achieved through the core values of discipline, respect, integrity, and humility.
