Aretians Rugby Football Club

Aretians Rugby Football Club, located in Bristol, showcases the vision of its founder, John Luget, former Headmaster of Henbury County Secondary School. Established to foster continuing connections among alumni and promote their overall well-being, Aretians RFC has grown into a club known for its strong community and dedication to sports.

Roy Dash and Richard Wallace, significant figures within Henbury School, along with Bert Ind from Broad Plain RFC, played instrumental roles in anchoring Aretians within the Bristol Combination. Their work laid a solid foundation, one that led the club to win the Junior Combination Sevens Cup in its formative years.

The early committee, consisting of committed individuals like Cyril Wallace, Jim Battle, Harry Harrison, Fred Hill, Ted Smith, and John Luton, steered the club to great heights. The 1962/1963 season saw Aretians transition into the Senior Combination, where they demonstrated their strength against top clubs, earning a full First Team Fixture List.

Notable players who have passed through Aretians include Tony Rogers, Richard Wallace, and Pete Smith, among others, with many going on to represent various levels of county and international rugby. Teachers from Henbury School, including Ian Wallace and Tony Gaynor, have also added their expertise to the club.
