Ashburton Golf Club

Member in 1980. In recognition of his significant contributions to the club, the members unanimously agreed to name the new course Brandon after him.

The Ashburton Golf Club, also known as Brandon Links, is located just off State Highway 1, one hour south of Christchurch and 1 km north of the Ashburton Township. Established in 1895, it is considered one of the top 18 hole golf courses in Canterbury, offering easy walking and top-quality golfing conditions year-round.

The course features full irrigation from tee to green, ensuring excellent playing conditions at all times. The greens are particularly noteworthy, maintaining their quality throughout the year. Golfers of all skill levels are welcome to play on the course, and visitors are encouraged to enjoy a round of golf in this picturesque setting.

The club boasts a fully stocked pro shop, offering all the golfing equipment and supplies that players may require. The Pro Shop is managed by NZPGA Professional (Class AAA) Matt Davis, who is available for golf lessons and general coaching. Initially established in 1895, it played at various locations within Ashburton until 1953 when it purchased land to develop the current Brandon location. The course has undergone notable alterations and improvements over the years, including the elimination of a short par 3 hole, extensions, and realignment of certain holes, and the introduction of new holes. The construction of a new clubhouse in 1963 further enhanced the facilities at the club.

The name Brandon comes from Mr. Jack Brand, who joined the club in 1950 and played a significant role in the development of the new course. As a show of appreciation for his contributions, the members decided to name the course Brandon in his honour.
