Ashihara Karate, founded by Hideyuki Ashihara, is all about practical fighting and self-defence. Jaimie emphasises that it’s not about dodging or avoiding attacks aimlessly. The focus at Ashihara Karate Albany is on practical strategies and scientific logic in combat. Even if an opponent is bigger or stronger, the aim is to overcome them with smart techniques rather than brute force.

Ashihara Karate is built around two key concepts: Sabaki and Fight Control. Sabaki gets you moving your body into advantageous positions, like the opponent’s blind spot. Fight Control is about managing the opponent using techniques that don’t cause unnecessary harm. Mastering these concepts means you can handle attacks and keep the opponent from countering effectively.

Jaimie wants you to know that Ashihara Karate is all about improvement through enjoyment. It's a lifelong journey where people of all abilities train together, compete, teach, and help each other progress. The training is designed to avoid the injuries that often come from reckless practices or unrealistic expectations.

Ashihara Karate Albany is affiliated with the Fighting Fit Academy in Panmure, Auckland, and The New International Karate Organisation (NIKO) in Japan.
