Assheton Bowmen is a welcoming and community-focused archery club located in Manchester. Established in 1992 by the late David Frost, the club aims to promote archery in all its forms and continue the fantastic work started by its founder. With a dedicated committee and passionate members, Assheton Bowmen has grown into one of the friendliest archery clubs in the region.
Club days/nights are scheduled on Wednesdays from 5pm to 9pm, Fridays from 5pm to 9pm, and Sundays from 9am onwards. These times are approximate, indicating when most members will be present. Members with a key are welcome to shoot anytime. The club offers a range of regular events, including club nights, a beginners course, coaching nights, and committee meetings.
Adhering to club rules and etiquette is important at Assheton Bowmen. Members are requested to refrain from touching another archer's equipment, including bosses and stands. Additionally, members participating in club shoots must arrive at least 45 minutes prior to help set up the range or field and assist in clearing it at the end. To secure a spot in a club shoot, members must add their names to the board at least 24 hours in advance.
The club hosts Beginners Courses designed to teach the basic skills of archery in a friendly and enjoyable environment. While almost anyone can enjoy archery, there are strict conditions regarding the participation of young individuals. More information about the courses can be found on the club's website.
Assheton Bowmen boasts excellent facilities to cater to its members' needs. The clubhouse features a 12-lane, 18-metre indoor shooting range with disabled access and a disabled toilet. Additionally, there are separate toilets for gents and ladies. On the social side, members can relax in the large seated lounge area, complete with a fully equipped kitchen.
The club's field is spacious enough to accommodate shooting up to 100 yards and is fully fenced off for security. Members have access to the grounds 24/7, with ample parking available.
Obtaining a key and access codes for the club's alarm system allows members to access the club outside of regular club nights. New members must have attended the club 20 times on club nights before being considered for a key and alarm codes. Returning members within 18 months can exchange their key for the current one or pay a 5 deposit for a new key. For returning members after 18 months, obtaining a new key requires the payment of a 5 deposit.
