Auckland Rowing Club

Auckland Rowing Club (ARC) is a historic rowing club located in the suburb of Mt. Wellington in Auckland, New Zealand. Established in 1869, the club has a long and proud history in the sport of rowing. Over the years, ARC has gone through six location changes, and its current site is at Ian Shaw Park in the Flat Rock area on the Tamaki River.

With a membership of around 300 individuals, ARC welcomes both male and female members of all ages and skill levels. The club is affiliated with several prominent schools in Auckland, including Epsom Girls Grammar School, Sacred Heart College, and Diocesan School for Girls. Members participate in a variety of rowing events, ranging from U15 and novice categories to masters, in both sculling and sweep oar disciplines.

In addition to hosting its own members, ARC also welcomes rowers from overseas who are visiting New Zealand, corporate rowers, and university rowers. The club takes pride in its rich history both on and off the water, boasting numerous National titles and international representatives.

The leadership team at ARC works diligently to ensure the smooth operation of the club and its continued growth. Meet the team, consisting of dedicated individuals such as Peter Mills, Pete Mason, Lesley Milne, Allan Botica, Ryan Gass, Alex Fowler, Margot Chandler, and Alex Laurenson.

As with any organisation, ARC has certain guidelines and policies in place to ensure the well-being and safety of its members. The Club Constitution outlines the governance structure, membership categories, and roles within the club. The Code of Conduct sets the expected standards of behaviour and treatment towards fellow members. The Member Protection Policy provides guidance on dealing with bullying or harassment incidents.

Additionally, there is a focus on river safety on the Tamaki River, as it can be hazardous without proper knowledge and awareness.
