Welcome to the Axminster Skatepark, a charity-run skatepark that is dedicated to providing an exciting and inclusive space for skateboarders in Axminster. Our trustee committee and local members are passionate about the park and its community, and we rely on the generosity of our supporters to keep the skatepark open and growing.
We are thrilled to announce that Phase 2 of the skatepark is complete, making an already fantastic skatepark even better. With more lines, ramps, and opportunities for fun, skateboarders of all levels will have a blast at our park.
One of the highlights of our calendar is the Skate Jams. Planning has already begun for the 2023 Skate Jams, which will be held from May to September. This is the perfect opportunity to showcase your best tricks and lines, with the chance to win awesome merchandise. Make sure to mark your calendars and start practising!
The Axminster Skatepark had humble beginnings. In 2003, a group of young people organised through Pippins Youth Club set up a skatepark charity fund. They constructed self-built wooden ramps, including a large kicker and landing ramp, and organised skate Jams and events at Cloakham Lawns. These early initiatives were immensely popular and garnered support for a dedicated skatepark in Axminster.
In 2009, the first official skatepark in Axminster was built thanks to funding raised by the community. Consisting of metal-framed wooden ramps on a rough tarmac base, it provided an initial space for skateboarders. However, the park quickly became dangerous due to damage and insufficient maintenance. Despite its decline, a dedicated team continued to advocate for a new park and organised fundraising events to generate funds for the project.
Finally, in 2022, after years of hard work and perseverance, the new and improved Axminster Skatepark became a reality. With the support of the East Devon District Council and Axminster Town Council, the park was constructed in two phases. The second phase, completed in August 2022, was achieved unexpectedly quickly due to additional funding becoming available. With the support of these organisations, we now have a state-of-the-art facility that not only caters to skateboarders but also serves as a community hub.
While we are grateful for the support received, it is now up to us as a charity to run and maintain the skatepark. We welcome any support you can offer, whether as a business sponsor or a charitable friend. Donations can be made through Paypal using the donate button on our website. Please reach out if you would like to learn more about how you can help.
We are located at the Cloakham Lawn Sport Centre, Chard Road, Axminster, EX13 5HW. Stay updated on our progress and upcoming events by visiting our website and following us on social media. Thank you for your support in making the Axminster Skatepark a thriving community space for skateboarders in the area.
