About

Titles can be earned for the fifth Dan instructors.

Aylwin Judo Club, situated on Galleywall Road in London, is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The club focuses on teaching Judo to enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. With a team of seasoned instructors, Aylwin Judo Club offers training in technique, contest, and kata. These instructors frequently teach courses throughout the UK.

The club, founded by Sensei Richard Raymond, 6th Dan, over 40 years ago, welcomes complete beginners and those returning to Judo after a break. Dedicated beginner classes are available to help newcomers quickly learn the basics. Everyone, regardless of experience, is encouraged to join and advance.

Prospective members can simply show up on a training night without an appointment. The club is always delighted to welcome new visitors. For more details on training times, fees, and directions, check their website.

Richard Raymond and the team also welcome practitioners of other martial arts like Aikido, JuJitsu, Karate, and Kendo to explore the similarities and shared principles of their arts.

The club’s fame has spread far and wide, even making an appearance on Channel 5’s “How to Take Stunning Photographs” in Episode 4, “Action.” Photos from the show are available on the website.

Aylwin Judo Club has moved a few times since its start at Aylwin School (now Harris Academy). The club moved to St Crispins Church hall in 1997 and now resides at Rennie Tenants Hall on Galleywall Road, sharing space with New Cross Martial Arts (NCMA).

With a combined experience of 170 years in Judo, the instructors at Aylwin Judo Club range from 1st Dan to 6th Dan and have all achieved FPJ level 2 coaching qualifications. They have completed Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks and hold first aid qualifications. The club occasionally hosts highly ranked visiting instructors as well.

In essence, Aylwin Judo Club aims to provide top-quality Judo training for everyone, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where all can develop their skills in this Olympic sport.
