Backcountry Saddle Expeditions is proud to be one of the longest standing horse trekking operations in New Zealand. Although previously operating in the Cardrona Valley for 35 years, we have recently relocated our horses to the beautiful Hidden Valley in Earnscleugh. We have always been about that “off the beaten track” and "backcountry” feel, offering our riders a unique and adventurous horse riding experience.
Our owner, Debs, has a lifelong passion for horses and has spent most of her life around these magnificent animals. She was even invited to help develop the Quality Tourism Standard for Horse Trekking. Debs is a staunch advocate for natural horsemanship and has developed her own style over the years. However, her commitment to providing a high-quality horse riding package remains the same.
