During the journey of pregnancy, labour, and motherhood. At Barefoot Yoga, located in Gloucester, expectant mothers can join pregnancy yoga courses that are suitable from 14 weeks until the birth of their baby.
Linda Sharp, the founder of Barefoot Yoga, discovered yoga during her professional dancing career. After practising yoga for five years, she decided to become a teacher in order to share the joy and numerous benefits of yoga. Linda travelled to India in 2004 and trained in the Sivananda yoga tradition, which was a life-changing experience for her. Following the birth of her son, Arthur, in 2007, Linda furthered her teacher training in another tradition by completing a British Wheel of Yoga diploma course with Viniyoga teacher Dave Charlton.
Inspired by her own experience of attending antenatal yoga classes during her pregnancy, Linda developed a passion for helping expectant mothers through this special time and preparing them for their birthing experience. She trained with Gail Reeves, who runs Beautiful Birth and Beyond yoga classes in Malvern, and began teaching pregnancy yoga in September 2014. Linda's classes follow the Viniyoga approach, which focuses on using the breath with movement and adapting postures for the individual. She also incorporates the philosophy of yoga into her classes to provide additional benefits for the mothers-to-be.
In addition to pregnancy yoga, Barefoot Yoga also offers mixed ability yoga classes that welcome beginners and new starters. These classes take place on Fridays from 11am to 12:15pm at the Churchdown Methodist Church Hall. The classes feature gentle yoga practises with asanas (postures), breathing exercises, and relaxation. Linda is passionate about teaching her students how to incorporate their yoga practise into their daily lives for physical and emotional strength, calmness, and relaxation.
Barefoot Yoga is fully equipped with public liability insurance and Linda is first-aid certified. She continues her professional development by attending regular workshops and taking classes with her peer teachers. Linda also offers one-to-one sessions at the Longlevens Community Association Centre or in the comfort of your own home.
If you haven't yet experienced the benefits of yoga, now is the perfect time to do so. Consider yoga as a gift to yourself and your unborn baby during your pregnancy. Practising yoga during this time can bring physical and emotional strength, provide a sense of calmness and relaxation, and open your body and mind to prepare and sustain you throughout your pregnancy journey.
