Barton Turf Adventure Centre

Barton Turf Adventure Centre, located at the north end of Barton Broad in Norwich, is a renowned sailing school and adventure activity centre. This family-run establishment offers a range of courses and activities for schools, groups, families, and individuals. Originally established for the use of Hertfordshire schools, Barton Turf Adventure Centre is now managed by Di Smith, Ashley Cato, and Sheila Fishwick. While the activities are open to everyone, the centre primarily caters to schools and youth groups. They offer tuition for a variety of adventurous and environmentally focused activities, utilising the 14-acre private nature reserve and Barton Broad.

With its own slipway into an arm of Barton Broad, Barton Turf Adventure Centre can launch and recover boats up to 6 metres in length, 2 metres in width, and with a maximum draught of 0. 5 metres (keels up). Wider boats may need to be manually handled over the side of the quay or launched through Cox's Boatyard for a fee. Visitors are also welcome to moor their boats overnight.

Camping facilities at Barton Turf Adventure Centre are exclusively available to schools, organised clubs, and groups. There are 11 permanent tents on site, each sleeping four people in comfortable beds. However, guests must bring their own sleeping bags and pillows.

Barton Broad, the second-largest of the Norfolk Broads, is widely recognised as one of the best locations for sailing. The recent restoration project led by the Broads Authority has significantly improved the quality of the broad, transforming it into a boating paradise. The Broad is teeming with various wildlife species, including birds, fish, and even otters. The edge of the Broad serves as a nature reserve, protecting microlife by creating fish-free areas.

While pleasure boat traffic is present, a 5mph speed limit ensures a calm and safe environment for all.
