The grading syllabus follows the traditional Shotokan Karate curriculum, which includes various techniques such as blocking, striking, punching, and kicking. Students are also taught the principles of etiquette, respect, and hierarchy that are inherent in Japanese martial arts.
In addition to regular training sessions, Sussex Shotokan Karate-Do Association provides opportunities for students to participate in seminars, workshops, and competitions to further enhance their skills and knowledge. These events are led by renowned karate masters and instructors from around the world.
The club is led by Chief Instructor Adrian Pryor, who holds a 3rd dan rank. He is supported by instructors Sensei Dave Hate (3rd Dan), Sensei Rob Edwards (1st Dan), and Shah Alam (1st Dan). Each instructor brings their own expertise and teaching style to create a well-rounded learning experience for students of all levels and abilities.
Classes are held twice a week at Bexhill Leisure Centre. Open sessions are held on Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 8pm, led by Sensei Dave, and on Sundays from 10am to 11:30am, led by Sensei Adrian (except on the last Sunday of the month). There are also special Black and Brown Belt only sessions on the last Sunday of the month from 10am to 11:30am.
The club welcomes individuals aged 16 and above to join their training sessions. However, plans for club expansion to accommodate younger students are in progress, and interested individuals under 16 years old are encouraged to contact the club to register their interest.
