At Bikram In The Shire, we specialise in Bikram Yoga, a dynamic and invigorating practise that consists of 26 postures and two breathing exercises. Each class is 90 minutes long and takes place in a room heated to around 38 degrees Celsius, which helps to warm up your muscles and improve flexibility.
The repetition of Bikram's series of postures allows beginners to develop concentration and body-mind awareness gradually. Each posture is completed twice, with the first set serving as a warm-up and the second set enabling you to work deeper into each pose. Rest periods of twenty seconds, known as savasana, are taken between sets and poses to allow the body to relax and the blood to circulate throughout.
Mirrors are strategically placed in the studio to allow you to observe your body objectively, improving body awareness and refining body alignment. This constant eye contact with yourself becomes an open eye meditation, further enhancing your practise.
Our experienced teachers provide a constant dialogue with precise instructions, ensuring that everyone in the class stays in sync. This not only helps to maintain a sense of unity but also quiets the mind and encourages stillness.

In addition to our regular Bikram Yoga classes, we also offer special events and workshops to further enhance your practise. These include the Tony Sanchez Urban Retreat, where you can learn from renowned yogi Tony Sanchez, and the Yin Autumn Master Class, which explores the Yin style of yoga based on Chinese medicine principles.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have implemented strict safety measures to ensure the well-being of our yogis. We have reopened our doors after a 10-week lockdown and are grateful for the support we received from our wonderful community during that time.
