This natural heat supports detoxification, improves circulation, relaxes muscle tissue for deeper stretching, and offers a more intense cardiovascular workout, resulting in a greater calorie burn than typical yoga classes.
Bikram Yoga involves a set sequence of 26 Hatha Yoga postures and two breathing exercises, practised in a heated room for 90 minutes. It was developed by Bishnu Ghosh in Calcutta, India, and later brought to America by his student, Bikram Choudhury.
