Bilton Bowling Club
John, the organiser at Bilton Bowling Club in Bilton village, just south of Rugby, wants to extend a warm welcome to everyone. The club is a friendly, mixed club offering a variety of activities. Members can participate in internal competitions, team matches against local clubs, and friendly roll-ups with other members and friends.
This club, run by volunteers, is operated as a Community Amateur Sports Club. The Management Committee, also volunteers, oversees its day-to-day running.
Both indoor and outdoor activities are on offer year-round. John encourages everyone to join in, whether it’s for match day teas, groundwork, or events like the “Rugby in Bloom” award, where the club proudly received a Silver award in 2023. The summer season kicks off in mid-April, with the green open from 11 am until dusk daily. Friday evenings are “Club Night,” open to all members, including new players keen to try their hand at bowls.
The club bar is a hub for social events, open throughout the year on Friday evenings.
The Men’s section competes in a midweek triples cup competition on Thursday evenings with five other local clubs. There are also regular friendly matches on Saturday afternoons and some midweek fixtures. The Ladies’ section participates in a competition on Sundays and enjoys friendly matches midweek and on Saturdays.
Bilton Bowling Club is proud of its affiliations with various bowling associations, including Bowls England, Warwickshire County Bowling Association, Warwickshire Women’s Bowling Association, and Rugby Bowling Association. The clubhouse is available for private functions and meetings, with a booking form available on the website. The local Ramblers group often uses it for their meetings and New Year's Eve celebration.
In 2005, the club added a single artificial surface rink with a grant from Rugby Portland Cement Benevolent Society. This rink, used by local schools, youth groups, and other community organisations, was recently refurbished.
