Blenheim Dive Centre (or BDC) is one of the oldest dive centres in New Zealand, located in the heart of Blenheim. Established in December 1986, the dive centre was taken over by Kevin and Jennifer Bailey just six weeks after its opening. Kevin, who had recently completed a 23-year career with RNZAF, had a deep passion for SCUBA diving, making this venture a natural choice for him. Jennifer, on the other hand, was seeking a new interest to challenge herself now that their four children were in school.
As a family-run business, Blenheim Dive Centre has been able to actively participate in the community. The Baileys have built strong relationships with Queen Charlotte College and the Underwater Hockey sporting code, which have continued to thrive over the years. All four of their children have also contributed to the family business in various ways. In 2008, Bryan, one of their children, took over from his father as the head of Blenheim Dive Centre.
Today, Bryan and Jennifer continue to run the business together.
Bryan Bailey, the PADI Master Instructor and Freediving Instructor at Blenheim Dive Centre, has been diving in the Marlborough Sounds since he was 12 years old. With his extensive experience and knowledge, Bryan can provide training in all levels of diving, from Open Water Diver to Assistant Instructor. He has developed personalised training programmes for many students to enhance their in-water capabilities. Bryan is also a Skills Active Assessor and has established a close relationship with the local Aquaculture industry, providing comprehensive training to their workforce.
In addition to his passion for diving, Bryan also loves to travel. Following in his father's footsteps, Bryan offers annual overseas dive experiences, providing an ideal winter getaway for enthusiastic divers and their partners.
